Internet Explorer 6 or IE 7 for OS X (or Linux)

30 May 2008 0 views 2 Comments

It’s here! Unbelievably, for some reason, not found before, by the masses, Internet Explorer has been ported (well…) for Intel OS X. Using the Wine platform, IE6 and IE7 has been ported to Linux, then to OS X.

It’s built under GPL, so the source is freely available from the main site.

Why is this so important?

A huge portion of the web design industry is Mac-based, as designers most appreciate the design put into the Mac. The only obstacle against them, in the past, was that they couldn’t test on arguably the most used browser in the Windows (most used operating system) environment. Well now you can. Although IE7 is still in BETA, and isn’t even expected to work, it’s still a pretty remarkable piece of software, one that many a user will find helpful.

Or for Linux: ies4linux, the original version. Thanks to Erik for finding it!

Oh and if you’re a Windows developer, go download IE8 now. You can use it as either IE7 or IE8, so there’s nothing to loose.

Um. No. Just plain, No. We need to stop advertising anything related to IE6 or IE7. IE8 seems decent, but until it proves itself, we need to try to get people to change to a non-IE browser. Please. No.

This isn’t at all to achieve a change. This is a debugging browser, designed for people to use when they design websites on a Mac. I thought you are a Mac user?
