Moving tags - eval() experiment

8 December 2007 7 views 7 Comments

In this experiment, a number of tags, loaded in with XML are randomly shot around the stage. Try swiping them off the desk using the button in the top left. They will come back after about 2 or 3 seconds. You can also click on them, which brings up the same data that is in the Lee Brimelow Carousel v3. None of the code is the same, I just like the writing :)
The purpose of this is for people to open it and see how many people use the eval function, as well as to make a cool effect that they can use on their websites. Have fun with it! Remember to post a comment or digg this if you think it was good.

    Hey Lawrence,

    Thanks for the script…I found this very useful in understanding eval(). I’m from Karachi, Pakistan and am really getting into AS - I have seen eval() everywhere especially when i decompile code to see how professionals are coding.

    Thanks again for helping out with the community. I did add your link to delicious!!!!

    Hi, glad you like it!

    Just to let you know the next way to do eval in as3 is generally to consider the movieclip (or timeline) level as an array so you could look for

    _root["movieclip"+i];

    to select something dynamically.

    Lawrence,

    Thanks. Man i have my hands full here with AS2!!! I have been doing a lot of research into AS3. I was thinking of subscribing to Safari Books online. They dont support friends of eds books. Dude i have checked online but cant find anywhere i can subscribe to both (Oreilly and Friends of Ed). Any suggestions?

    I generally am not a book person… so I am not sure what you mean by subscribing. They are totally different companies, so I guess they won’t support each other. Maybe you should consider purchasing or subscribing separately.

    I’m gutted I couldn’t help more, but there are plenty of people over at http://www.gotoandlearnforum.com that should know - they are into flash books a lot.
