The greatness of the G1 and the potential of Android

G1

While the google phone (T-mobile G1) certainly isn’t revolutionary by any sense, it can be dubbed evolutionary. Yes, it is lesser when compared to the Apple 3g in terms of userbility, speed, and other factors, but the potential of the G1 is much greater than the Iphone. As years pass and the G1 has more time to sink into tech communities, I think we will only see greatness coming out of this device. Unlike apple, this phone is completely unlockable. Does this mean it is not as secure as the Iphone? Yes; thirdparty apps may be at a much lesser quality than Apple, who reviews each application before it is released on the app store.  However, being that the phone is unlocked, it allows people to dive much much deeper into the OS than Apple can ever imagine their users doing.

In future years, without a doubt we will find the Android at a whole new level. As users integrate and make the Android their own, the this OS might show up Apple after all. We will find open source becomes a commonplace for this phone, whether it is still the G1 or even G2 at this time. I believe that sales for this phone and OS in general will skyrocket in the upcoming years due to the customization that can be done with it. Apple beware.

Also, we very well may find Android integrated into other devices, whether it be GPS, vehicle computers, Mp3 players or other products that use an OS. We may find that cars will start to adopt this OS instead of the Microsoft chips built into most car computers. PDAs or other smart phones may adopt this as well. Google’s android team already has some other ideas in mind (check it out here) and it’s a given that we will find Android in bigger and better places than the G1. I’m excited for the future of the Android and will be keeping a close eye on development feeds.
